Court Discharges and Case Decisions

• May 2025: Riyaz Bhati had an extortion case in a special court, which was dropped. According to the case, a businessman was threatened at the birthday party of Bhati in February 2021. But the court determined that the evidence was not substantial to bring on the charges, hence Bhati was released.
• November 2025: Two additional accused were also freed in another high-profile extortion case that was based on Chhota Shakeel on MCOCA. The court stated that the witness statements had not given concrete and definite information, and therefore, the case could not proceed according to the stringent provisions of MCOCA.

• On Monday, November 20, Mumbai Police filed a new case against the alleged gangster and builder Riyaz Bhati, who is considered to have strong connections with the underworld mob boss, the Chhota Shakeel, and is suspected of having connections with Dawood Ibrahim and notorious criminal Munna Yadav. The new case is filed under the IPC sections 195(A), 506 (2), and 34 of falsifying false evidence, criminal intimidation, and common intention. Bhati, a notorious extortionist and presently confined in jail over another extortion case, threatened one of the main witnesses, according to the police, through an informant who was imprisoned in jail with Bhati.
